This report explores the Bank’s increasing investment in fossil fuels, in particular coal, and its continued support for dams, even though they lead to the displacement of entire communities, generate greenhouse gas emissions and have other negative environmental impacts. Despite the need to urgently slash global emissions through a just transition away from fossil fuel use, the Bank’s energy investment portfolio is locking developing countries, including South Africa and India, into a high-carbon future.
