Friends of the Earth Australia is a federation of 12 independent local groups active throughout the country. It was founded in 1974, the same year it joined Friends of the Earth International. Its national campaigns are focused on all aspects of the nuclear fuel cycle, climate justice and support for the rights of indigenous people. Its national magazine, Chain Reaction, is published three times a year in English.
Other key campaign areas include trade, population and environment, environmental refugees, forests, corporates and sustainable food production. It coordinates a national social and environmental film festival, called Wild Spaces.
Friends of the Earth Australia places considerable emphasis on working in close alliance with many other sectors of society.
